Missional churches are at the heart of everything Mission Alive does. What does it mean to be “missional”? The following quote from Dr. Elias Medeiros provides an excellent explanation. “It means to live as a sent one, to think as a sent one…for the sake of God’s glory, the edification of God’s people the church and the salvation of the lost, across the street and around the world.”

Please take a few minutes to read about two of Mission Alive’s church plants that are living as “sent ones” in their communities. Please pray for their ministries as they seek God’s wisdom and guidance.

From Steve and Laura Allen, The Table-Irving

  • Steve and Laura are working with three other non-profits to focus on the community of Zander Park Apartments and create events that will allow them to continue to build relationships within this primarily Latino community. Recent events include a neighborhood night out, food distribution, a financial literacy class and a diaper distribution. They ask for your prayers for wisdom, discernment, open hearts and open doors.
  • The team asks us to join them as they pray for a team member who feels called into missional ministry with the marginalized of Irving. They are specifically praying for an apartment community where he would live, work to build relationships, and do similar work to what they are doing at Zander Park.
  • The Table Irving worked closely with the non-profit, LifeChange Housing Associates, during last week’s frigid weather to open their Inclement Weather Shelter. This facility offers a short term haven for the homeless in the area.

  • Blake is trying to connect more with several native men that are in his life. Several are non-believers that struggle with alcohol; one a tribal elder who is curious about their gatherings on the reservation; another a non-believer but who Blake considers a person of peace.
  • Katie is trying to create a gathering for several women in her life: some believers, some not; some Native, some not. But they all share the desire for community and connection to God.
  • Katie and Blake are in a season of fasting and prayer with another couple who they consider teammates in their work. Their hope is that this time will result in a deeper connection and a clearer vision for God’s mission in their corner of SD.
  • The Burchfields seek for God to supply vision for how to be the body of Christ in Red Shirt, SD, where they are helping to start a new faith community.
