Over the last two months and during three different Lufkin Street Ministries gatherings, we have been blessed with countless opportunities to be the hands and feet of Jesus as we serve the marginalized of our community. At each gathering, we have seen a steady increase in participation where we continue to meet meet new people and form new relationships. Typically, our monthly Fellowship in the Park takes place on the second Saturday of the month, but in December we felt led to hold two gatherings, including a special Christmas outreach.
Because of the generosity of our community, we received donations to provide Christmas stockings filled with candy, candy canes, socks, hygiene items, and other essentials. We were also given a large donation of of delicious food and we were able to serve a meal fit for royalty. The event was especially meaningful, as we served alongside several other organizations and local businesses, coming together with one shared goal: loving our neighbors well.
This month, we began leaning more intentionally into the case management side of serving our marginalized neighbors—listening to their stories, identifying needs, and walking with them toward next steps. One particular conversation has stayed with me. A gentleman shared his frustration, saying that many people promise help but never follow through. In his words, “There are only two people I can trust—God and myself.” That moment served as a powerful reminder of why we do what we do.
Yes, we serve others as if we are serving Jesus—but it goes beyond meeting physical needs. We find ourselves in sacred moments where we are given the opportunity to point people to Jesus, to help them see Him in a new way, and to see His followers in a new light.
Is this work challenging and stressful at times? Absolutely.
Is it worth it? Most definitely.
Why? Because our marginalized neighbors are worthy.
Thank you for walking alongside us—through prayer, generosity, and faithful support—as we continue this work together.
