Have you ever wondered why Lufkin Street Ministries 2540 includes 2540 in their name? It’s because Matthew 25:40 is the foundation of their ministry: “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Lufkin Street Ministries exists to serve “the least of these” by meeting both physical and spiritual needs in their community. IFC leader, Jason Hollinger shared the following after a recent Fellowship in the Park event:
Lessons Learned at Our Latest 2540 Fellowship in the Park
I am always blessed to learn from our people. Today was no exception.
One of the moments that really stood out came from a gentleman I offered more food to. He said yes, but quickly added, “I don’t want to be greedy. There are others who still need to eat.” That simple statement carried a powerful reminder — even in hardship, generosity and consideration for others still shine brightly.
During cleanup, one of our guys jumped right in to help load the trailer and tidy up the park pavilion. I watched those we serve serving each other — and that’s what community looks like.
I also got to reconnect with a few faces I hadn’t seen in a long time, which was such a gift. And just before we wrapped up, a lady came by asking how she could volunteer. Within minutes, she was helping serve plates to those coming back for seconds. Before she left, she asked how to make a donation — and did.
It was a good day. A reminder that God is always at work — teaching, connecting, and stirring hearts to serve one another.
