| Introducing Individual Missional Initiatives and Missional Small Groups
Mission Alive equips leaders to launch six types of missional initiatives. These six types are differentiated by, 1) whether you launch them while remaining part of an established church and 2) by how deeply you will invest in a missional/incarnational approach to ministry. In this article, we will explore the first two types: Individual Missional Initiatives and Missional Small Groups. Both types of IFCs can be started while remaining a part of your local church.
Individual Missional Initiatives
Individual Missional Initiatives are missional outreaches launched by individuals, couples, or single families. They focus on volunteering with a local nonprofit (Christian or not) that is working to improve life for those in your community. We’ll help you discern the needs of your community and once you select a local nonprofit to collaborate with, you will begin meeting people, offering assistance, and witnessing God’s work through you in the lives of others. It’s that simple! Remain active in your current church but join God’s mission by improving life for your community and let your faith shine through the relationships you form. We’ll help you get started and sustain your efforts.
Missional Small Groups
Missional Small Groups are initiatives launched by groups of individuals, couples, or families who choose to collaborate to improve the lives of those in your community. They may be part of your church or friends from various churches and work together. You can even invite some of your non-believing friends to help you support your community. Wouldn’t that be amazing? Like the Individual Missional Initiative, you would concentrate on volunteering with a local nonprofit that aims to enhance a specific aspect of your community that your group feels passionate about. Just to be clear, you would not start a bible study or church small group but you would help your neighbors in need in some tangible way. Mission Alive would come alongside you or your group to help you identify the specific community need on which to focus and help you choose a nonprofit organization with which to work. We will also provide training and coaching along the way so that you maximize your impact.
