We’re Looking for Faithful Leaders, Not Superheroes!

Throughout the 21 years of Mission Alive’s church planting ministry, we have increased our understanding of what it takes for a church planter to successfully start an innovative faith community (IFC).  We want to share with you how we assess leaders for church planting.

The Assessment Phase of our process starts when the prospective church planter indicates that they have completed an intentional discernment process and concluded that they are called to start an IFC with Mission Alive.  Mission Alive, of course, must also agree with their discernment for the Assessment phase to begin.

Assessment begins as we meet with the prospective lead church planter, their spouse, and occasionally with their whole family.  Throughout the Assessment Phase, Mission Alive assesses each prospective church planter on 24 components across 6 categories.

Mission Alive does not expect that every prospective planter will excel in each of these 24 components.  Our concern is that they bring enough understanding and competency to successfully launch an IFC.  We are also looking for any glaring components that might prevent them from success.  In addition, Mission Alive is looking for areas that will require additional training or teammates who can fill those missing pieces.

Mission Alive strives to remember that God has a habit of working through ordinary people.  Consequently, we are not looking for superheroes capable of amazing feats but for faithful servants with enough competency and conviction to help them weather the inevitable difficulties.

If you know someone who has some of the characteristics listed above and seems to have a calling to launch an innovative church, please let Mission Alive know!
