A Call to Authentic Engagement

Recent findings from Barna’s The Open Generation: United States report reveal a compelling trend:

over three-quarters of U.S. teenagers (77%) express a desire to learn more about Jesus

with 52% being “very motivated” and 25% “somewhat motivated” to continue this exploration throughout their lives.

It would seem this surge in spiritual curiosity presents a unique opportunity for new innovative faith communities (IFCs), especially those dedicated to serving marginalized populations.  While the interest in Jesus is evident, it’s essential to recognize that many teens remain hesitant to engage with traditional religious institutions.  Barna’s research indicates that
although this generation is open to spiritual matters, there is a reluctance toward formal church participation.
This would illustrate an approach like that of Mission Alive, to plant and nurture innovative churches that engage the community and its unique challenges in underserved areas, may be the best chance to foster environments where authentic faith conversations can flourish.

Mission Alive is committed to:
Creating Safe Spaces: Establishing environments where seekers feel comfortable expressing their doubts, questions, and beliefs without fear of judgment.
Authentic Engagement: Building genuine relationships that go beyond traditional church settings, meeting anyone where they are in their spiritual journey.
Relevant Discipleship: Offering mentorship and teaching that connect the teachings of Jesus to the real-world challenges we all face today.

A Collaborative Effort:
Addressing the spiritual curiosity of those vulnerable and confused, especially in marginalized communities, requires a collective approach. We invite you to:
Engage the leaders of your church to re-evaluate existing youth programs, ensuring they are authentic and responsive to the needs of today’s youth and young adults.
Share in open dialogues about faith throughout your varying walks of life – while at home, engaged in work or out socializing.  You can foster an environment where questions are welcomed.
Join a Discipleship Cohort that equips you with the tools to cultivate opportunities with others around you to explore their walk with Christ in meaningful ways.

The data is clear: youth and young adults are eager to learn about Jesus. It’s our responsibility to guide them with authenticity, compassion, and relevance, ensuring that their spiritual journeys are nurtured in a supportive community.
