From Kelly Bolin, IFC leader, Bertram, Texas
Over the past few weeks, we have had the privilege of sitting down with leaders here in Bertram to talk about the needs and opportunities in our community. These conversations were full of insight, encouragement, and a shared desire to see Bertram thrive.
From these interviews, two priorities rose to the top: supporting children who struggle with reading and equipping young adults with the job and life skills they need to succeed. These areas felt like natural starting points where we can make a real difference right away.
But there was also a theme we didn’t want to miss—our retirees. Again and again, leaders pointed out the skills, wisdom, and life experience that older generations in Bertram carry, much of which has not yet been tapped into in a meaningful way. By involving retirees in our work, we not only provide children and young adults with mentors and role models, but we also celebrate and honor the generations who built this community.
It’s exciting to see how these pieces fit together—children, young adults, and retirees—all playing a role in strengthening Bertram’s future.
