Spiritual Transformation-Abilene, Texas
Starting in 2023, Mission Alive invited Vini and Rachel Montesdeoca to launch an IFC in Abilene, Texas, called Spiritual Transformation. Their IFC (innovative faith community) is less focused on public gatherings for worship and more focused on helping participants experience genuine spiritual transformation. As a native Ecuadorian, Vini disciples and guides leaders in a variety of locations across Central and South America, as well as in Abilene, Texas. Below is an update from Vini.
Our purpose
Speaking and sharing about God with theological and human responsibility is always a challenge. At Spiritual Transformation, we work to create reflections that give us clues to identify God in a closer and more concrete way. Our challenge is to cultivate spirituality while we discover its meaning, in such a way that it becomes more applicable and goes beyond religious institutional structures.
New participants in recent months
At the end of last year, we began working with a missionary group that is planting a church in Pachuca, Mexico. We meet weekly to strengthen our interpersonal relationships and discuss spiritual questions that serve as new starting points for reflecting on how to better carry out the work of spreading the gospel of Christ with a more human and Christ-centered perspective.
A woman and her daughter are part of another participation group where everyday life matters are discussed during gatherings. Although we have just finished the first phase, the trust and freedom with which people can converse and engage in discussions about how God manifests daily in life are already noticeable.
Without a doubt, goals such as friendship, freedom, open conversation, the intention to live in spiritual reflection, and the attitude of living as followers of Jesus have been gradually achieved.
We are working toward the launch of a new project involving ministers from Nicaragua, Mexico, and Ecuador. Currently, at least twenty-eight people are involved in their spiritual development and discipleship, working to become better people, parents, siblings, and members of their communities.
Just as Jesus and the disciples did, in Spiritual Transformation we seek to follow that same method of fellowship, companionship, and shared spiritual life.
We work in person with several groups in Abilene and via Zoom with others in different states and countries in South America.
