From Tod Vogt, Mission Alive Executive Director

With some regularity, Mission Alive is asked this question. It is a fair question. Why would a church planting ministry like Mission Alive develop a focus as specific as marginalized communities? Over the next three weeks, we will address this question.

1Jesus was marginalized and had a heart for the marginalized.
Marginalized groups are people who are excluded or inhibited from fully participating in social, political, economic, or cultural life. As a Jewish carpenter from Galilee, Jesus was marginalized by both the occupying Roman army and by Jerusalem’s Jewish elite.  Additionally, throughout his ministry, Jesus elevated marginalized people such as Samaritans, women, children,
Phoenicians, those with mental health issues, and those with disabilities such as the deaf, the blind, and the mute.

Look for next week’s issue of Freshwater where I’ll  share our second answer as to why Mission Alive focuses on marginalized communities.
