ABOUT THE LECTURERS: (at the time of recording)
BRAY, GERALD - is the Anglican Professor of Divinity at Beeson Divinity School, Samford University. He teaches church history, historical theology, and Latin. His publications include Bibilical Interpretation: Past and Present (IVP), The Doctrine of God in the Contours of Christian Theology series (IVP) and Creeds, Councils and Christ (IVP). Dr. Bray is an ordained minister of the Church of England. CHAPELL, BRYAN - has served as President of Covenant Seminary since 1994. He began teaching at Covenant Seminary in 1984 after ten years in pastoral ministry. Before becoming President, he served for six years as Vice President for Academics and Dean of Faculty. He is much sough after as a speaker in churches and conferences around the country. Christ-Centered Preaching has established him as one of the nation's most recognized teachers of homiletics. GATHERCOLE, SIMON - is lecturer in New Testament at the University of Aberdeen, Aberdeen, Scotland. He previously served as a part-time lecturer and research student at the University of Durham. His research interests include the theology of Paul and Second-Temple Judaism; modern Continental philosophy and theology; the historical Jesus, and New Testament Theology. HOUSTON, JAMES M. - retired, was the founding principle and chancellor of Regent College in Vancouver, British Columbia. He has also served as professor of spiritual theology and authored a number of books including The Transforming Power of Prayer: Deepening Your Friendship with God (NavPress), The Disciple: Following the True Mentor (Cooke), Joyful Exiles: Life in Christ on the Dangerous Edge of Things (IVP). Dr. Houston holds advanced degrees from University of Edinburgh and Oxford University. MATTHEWS, KEN - teaches Old Testament and Hebrew. His book, The Paleo-Hebrew Leviticus Scroll (co-authored with David Noel Freedman) was the first full study of the Leviticus Dead Sea Scroll. He authored Genesis 1:1-11:26 and Genesis 11:27-50:26 in the New American Commentary (NAC) series and serves as associate general editor of that series. His other books include Amos: Repentance or Ruin (Convention Press) and Foundations of Biblical Interpretation (co-editor) (Broadman & Holman). He ha salso translated Leviticus in the New Living Translation (tyndale House). Prior to teaching at Beeson, Dr. Matthews taught at Dallas Baptist University and Criswell College. QUICKE, MICHAEL - is formerly the Principal of Spurgeon's College London. Currently, he serves as the C.W. Koller Professor of Preaching and Communication at Northern Theological Seminary, Chicago, IL. Educated at both Cambridge and Oxford Universities, he spent 21 years in pastoral ministry. ROSS, ALLEN - is professor of Old Testament and Hebrew. Prior to joining the Beeson faculty, he served as Director of the Christian Leadership Center, Tallahassee, FL and taught at Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry and Dallas Theological Seminary. He has published a textbook on Hebrew and authored a number of articles. THIELMAN, FRANK - concentrates primarily on the Pauline epistles. He is a prolific writer. His books include, The NIV Application Commentary: Phillipiansi (Zondervan), Paul and the Law: A Contextual Approach (IVP), From Plight to Solution: A Jewish Framework for Understanding Paul's View of the Law in Galatians and Romans (E.J. Brill), and The Law and the New Testament (Crossroads). In addition to the Law and the New Testament, his research interests includePauline theology and New Testament theology.
