The informal beginnings of this ministry were born in 2007 when Daryl and Kristin Steiner moved to Regina, and moved into North Central, an impoverished inner city community.  The following year, they, along with Kevin and Lisa Vance, began a Christian club in the Steiners’ home.  The humble beginnings of this group were only 6-8 kids on a weekly basis.  After a year, the ministry grew to 25 kids.

In the fall of 2009, “The Party”, as the kids had begun to call it, moved to Wascana School.  By June 2010, there were 84 kids at the wind-up, along with 40 helpers and 15 parents and grandparents from the community.  God was on the move!

That fall, the Steiners and Vances began training with Mission Alive to plant churches in Canada.  In May 2011, the church began meeting in the Steiners’ home on Sunday afternoons.  The house church gathering varies in number, anywhere from six to eight people, up to 47.

By the fall of 2011, a weekly Bible study and prayer time began on Wednesday evening.  In addition, there is a weekly addictions support group to help people struggling with alcohol, drugs and other addictions.  Also in the fall, the church incorporated as the “Gentle Road Church of Christ Inc” in the province of Saskatchewan.

One of the highlights of our year takes place each summer.  Mission 6:10 is a mission camp in the heart of Regina.  Founded in 2010, this week of intense ministry focuses on the needs of the inner city in Regina, and connects people with their gifts and passions as they serve God and the community.  In 2011, the projects we undertook were:

  • two Vacation Bible Schools
  • one middle school camp
  • one large mural (see above photo)
  • construction on people’s homes in the inner city
  • addictions workshops

We are grateful to God for our many partners, including the Northwest Church of Christ and the Glen Elm Church of Christ in Regina, as well as the Greenville Oaks Church of Christ in Allen, Texas, and many other congregations and individuals.

Kevin Vance writes, “God is overseeing each step of our journey. . . .  We trust him and step through each door as he leads us and believe that, like Abraham, we are on a journey with God. . . .”
